Story Detail:
The film is all about a boy and girl falling in love, getting married and discovering the relation between them. Karthik (Madhavan), a charming new generation guy who zips around on a bike falls in love at first sight with Shanthi (Shalini) in a marriage. Shanthi is a medico who commutes between Tambaram and Nungambakam in a train everyday. Karthik tries to woo her while she shuttles between home and college and finally makes her agree. But when their parents meet they end up in misunderstanding and the marriage doesn't work out. Then two lovers decide to forget each other. But they could not, as both the hearts long for each other and this time they meet with a stronger sense of belongingness. Then they decide to get married secretly and keep it a secret till when 'an appropriate time comes to reveal it'. Shalini has an elder sister, for whose marriage they have to wait. They go out of home as they go out home everyday and get married in a temple and come to their respective homes as if nothing happened. But their parents come to know about it and they send the lovers out of home.
The lovers set up a home. The relation ship is different from a conventional husband and wife relation and it's like a friendship continued. However, quarreling is their way of life and there will not be a single day that passed without quarreling. The story takes a turn when Shanthi meets with an accident. Karthik searches for her everywhere the whole night. Shanthi is admitted in a hospital with her life in danger. An IAS officer Ram (Aravindaswamy) and his wife Kushboo who are responsible for the accident take care of Shanthi at the hospital. Karthik finally finds his sakhi in the hospital. He realises his love to his wife when he sees the solace Aravind and Kushboo find in each other's hands in the time of crisis. The story takes a happy ending after some tension building up on Shanthi's life. Karthik and Shanthi once again realize the strong love and bond between them.
